SoulSecure's News

Man, two in the same month, awesome! Praise God! In fact, that's what this song is about: Worshipping God for who He is.

I know I only just recently (yesterday??) made a news post, but I didn't think I'd get this one done for a while.

I'd like to talk once again about stylistic influences. One of my big influences (especially since I started making downtempo) has been the music from Phantasy Star Online episode 1 & 2 (the third one not as much since I can't usually remember those tunes). I don't play videogames anywhere near as much as I used to (thank God), but the music in them will probably always interest me.

Anyway, PSO had a huge impact on this song. It wasn't intentional, but once I was done composing and making all the sounds I could definitely tell that PSO had influenced this one. Now, obviously it doesn't sound exactly like anything from those games, but it still reminds me of that style of music. Check out the soundtrack, it's great music!

So I've had my new vocal setup for a good while now and I have 2 songs uploaded using it.

It's sort of a learning curve for me here, as the new mic picks up a lot more frequencies and a different sound than I'm used to mixing. It is defintely better, but I am taking more time to learn techniques for good, more efficient vocal mixing due to the sheer power of this stuff compared to a Logitech USB headset mic.

I want to post a plug to one of my stylistic influences GGGAMESSS (Formerly HelloListener). I've been listening to his music for at least 5 years now (might have heard him in 2009, not sure) and whether or not it seems like it, his tunes have sparsely inspired some of my own ideas with my work. His music is much more creative than mine and you can hear his new EP at GGGAMESSS.BANDCAMP.COM. I do have to warn any of you who would expect anything I link to to be a Christian artist, this is not a Christian artist.

Let's face it, I've been severely held back by my current vocal setup. In case anybody doesn't know or remember what that is, it's simply a Logitech USB headset with a mic on it. It's for computer gaming. Not adequate.

SoI'm going to get a Shure SM58 and (with help from the audio forum) a Focusrite Scarlett Solo. Will update whenever I get this all bought and set up.

I have several songs lying around that don't have vocals on them. Some have vocal lines already figured out with lyrics, but never recorded, others are waiting for lyrics or melodies. They just keep piling up as I go along.

I'd love to compile an album this year, but only God knows if it's going to happen.

Currently there is a song that is almost finished. Just need to do the vocals and finish writing one last lyric. This one is moving fast even though it's my most recent composition (just started a few days ago) due to it's simplicity and the fact that it's chorus heavy instead of verse heavy (took a bit of a hint from Hawk Nelson's Drops in the Ocean). Also, I've had to rewrite the lyrics like 8 times now.

It's loungey, it's groovey and slightly funky. Lounge/Trip-hop would be my best guess at the genre.

I'm kind of embarking from my usual style of singing and going in a more jazz/funk-influenced direction with this one. Because it's different, I'm worried that it won't record well and be pain to mix. I hope I can get it done soon.

Update: That vocal style didn't work well with the song, but here's the finished product

It's been a long time (reference intentional) since I've had regular access to the internet, but here I am. Got myself a new rig with 8 gigs of RAM and I'm ready to finish some songs and make some new ones.

I already put up two new songs. Well, they're actually kinda old to me, but to you they're new!

Let's all bring the love of Jesus Christ to the world!

If you like Long Time by CAKE and really would enjoy singing over the instrumental, I made a tribute with a few NGers a couple years ago and now I have it for download (free, of course) without the horrible lead vocals I never got around to fixing! HOORAY!

I kept in my backing vocals, so you have fun with lead!

<a href="http://rahmemhotep.bandcamp.com/album/tributes">Link</a>

If you choose to use the song anywhere or any how remember to give credit to satanicpotatoe, sorohanro, and myself (Rahmemhotep).

Oh yeah, and CAKE...

I am now allowing fans to download my album and single songs for free on bandcamp.com.

My family and I have been on this long slide deeper into debt and poverty and we are at an all time low, exclusively dependent on others. This has made me think of my fans, most of whom tend to be younger (interestingly enough) and can not pay for my music, even though I am in great need.

I've been thinking and I've come to the conclusion that I don't care if I get paid for my music at this point as long as I make my fans happy. The reason I was selling my music in the first place was only because other people insisted I shouldn't take less for my hard work. Yes, it was a lot of hard work and I'm still improving some of the songs, but what does it matter if no one else can enjoy it? People say my music is unique and impressive, but that album has been inaccessable to these people until now. It's causing a disconnect with my fans.

So, come on over and have a listen and download if you want. Donations are definitely welcome, but please don't feel obligated to give.

If you want to use my music for a project or anything, please ask permission first and give me my due credit.

Y'all have a good one!

I don't mean 'Full-Length'. I've made two unreleased albums in the past, that would be considered full-length, but they never met the song amount I aimed for. This album meets all the goals I set for it and is therefore my first full album.

My keyboard is being one hell of a son of a bitch, so for now I leave you with a link...
