New Mic

Posted by SoulSecure - May 27th, 2015

Let's face it, I've been severely held back by my current vocal setup. In case anybody doesn't know or remember what that is, it's simply a Logitech USB headset with a mic on it. It's for computer gaming. Not adequate.

SoI'm going to get a Shure SM58 and (with help from the audio forum) a Focusrite Scarlett Solo. Will update whenever I get this all bought and set up.

Very nice! Looking forward to hearing you with the new mic.

Forgot to mention my birthday is on Monday. I also bought the Focusrite Scarlett Solo as I was in the middle of that post. >.>

I've got a Samsung Meteor mic. It's USB compatible, and perfect for home mixing. And cheaper than the Shure. And you can record instruments with it.

I actually have the SM58 already. Haven't updated this, cuz I wanted to with a new song, but I've been a little stuck.

Sorry, I wasn't precise enough with my review :p I meant the instrument that comes in at 3:13 (I somehow assumed you would magically know which one I was talking about :P)

The rhodes keyboard??? That plays earlier in the song. It's not out of tune, it's glitched. Still not makin' sense.

Yes, that one. I mean to say that it sounds like it's playing incorrect notes (I guess that could be pretty ambiguous). I'm hearing an E major in the bass, and G, A and D in the rhodes. G and D aren't in the key of E, so they would need extra justification, and A (the 4th note in the scale) wants to resolve to the 3rd or maybe the 5th, but it doesn't. Go ahead and try to play an E major in the bass and an A in the treble. Played together, it doesn't sound very good, unless you make the treble hand go down to a G#.

Hope that finally clears stuff up :P I really liked the song! :D

It's just playing whatever, man. I took music theory and failed, cuz I'm too far out, ya dig? I'm not exactly known for caring about chords and stuff.

I couldn't give theory any credit if what I did sounds good and you tell me it's wrong. That makes it way rad anyhow.

Well, I could just say "it sounds wrong" because it does sound off to my ears, but then we'd be at an impasse because you disagree :) So I thought I'd throw out the theoretical reasons why I thought it seemed off to me, and maybe help you understand why other people might find that it sounds off as well.

You don't have to get into the theory if you don't want to, but I'm sure you can play an E major chord (E-G#-B) with a A an octave up and hear that it sounds off.
